How does a wind turbine work?
There is a wind vane at the top of each turbine: this tells the turbine the speed and direction the wind is blowing.
The turbine then rotates on the tower to face into the wind, and the blades rotate on their axis to create maximum resistance against the wind.
A wind turbine is the very modern version of a windmill. Put simply, it uses the power of the wind to create electricity. Large wind turbines are the most visible, but you can also buy a small wind turbine for individual use, for example to provide power to a caravan or boat.
